The “Tradition Like No Other” aka The Masters needs a refresh, and I came up with one. We are only through the first round but one thing is already clear….The Masters needs to be a November event . I already know I’ll be glued to my TV all weekend, and what’s even better, I’ll be split screening Golf with Football.
Why November you ask, let’s start with the obvious argument, there’s nothing else exciting going on in Mid-November. In any other year, here is what we are “forced” to watch
Ok, maybe it’s not the worst list, but we deserve better, and the Masters in November is just that.
From a pure business decision, having the Masters in April is just a terrible idea. Sports fans are worn-out from March Madness concluding just the week before, the NBA/NHL Season is in their final weeks so teams are fighting for the playoffs, and you have the MLB season in full swing. Baseball is really only exciting for the first month, last 6 weeks, and the playoffs. it’s not that its sports overload….it’s awesome sports overload.
So move The Masters to November and let it be the crown jewel for the month. Hell, CBS will be able to run ads for it on all the NCAA and NFL games it broadcasts.
One last thing worth noting about the Masters this year. For a sport that is widely considered “an old man sport’ or “stuck in the old ways”, their App is FIRE!! Every year it gets better and better, and this year is no different. You can actually going to the Leaderboard on the App, look at a players scorecard, and actually see every shot. So if someone gets a double bogey, you can watch each shot.
Beyond that, there are several different livestreams running simultaneously which takes the viewing experience to the next level. I guess what I’m trying to say is Bravo to The Masters production teams and I hope they make a ton of money.
