As I write this, we are less that 24 hours from the 2021 Royal Rumble which is by far my favorite WWE event of the year. I love it because the event itself has so much potential for craziness, and also because it sets the tone for the next four months as we head to Wrestlemania. But rather than talk about the Royal Rumble itself (I’ve done that already), I wanted to take a moment to discuss who I hope makes an appearance and who I hope wins.
In terms of who I want to make an a appearance, my first pick is fairly obvious…The Fiend! Sure, he was burned alive, but if anyone can find a way back to the Royal Rumble it would be him. He’s been a highlight these past two years, and would love to see him keep it going.
Next, this is a little bit of a deeper track, I’d love to see Aleister Black make his return. I know things have been weird since WWE fired his wife, but he is always entertaining. By far one of the best entrances in WWE, and he just knows how to deliver on the big stage when given a chance.
Keeping with the NXT theme, I’d love for The Demon aka Finn Balor to make an appearance. He’s been killing it on NXT and never feel like he got a fair shot on the main card after his injury. Like Aleister Black, has a killer entrance, but more importantly he’s great in the ring and deserves the spotlight again.
Last but definitely….and I mean definitely not least, how amazing would it be for CM Punk to enter the Rumble. He’s obviously open to working with WWE now, question is, does he get in the ring. The only sad part would be if this happens, we don’t get the pop from the fans we normally would when his music hits. I’m almost mad at myself for putting this into the universe because I’m only going to be let down if it doesn’t happen.
In terms of who I hope wins, let’s start with my underdog dream….Adam Cole bay-bay. Think of this scenario, Adam Cole enters the Rumble only to be followed by other members of Undisputed. With 7 people remaining, 4 of them are Undisputed, and through various events Adam Cole gets his hand raised as the winner For the next four months as we head to Wrestlemania, Undisputed runs through both the main card and NXT. I know it’s a stretch, but would love to see Adam Cole get his chance.
More realistically, I hope Seth Rollins both returns and wins the Rumble. Not as that weird as hell “Messiah” character, but as the Seth Rollins from a couple years ago. He’s tired of seeing Roman Reigns and his “head of the table” story which leads him to coming back for his belt.
Now, here’s a quick breakdown of who I don’t want to win should they enter. Triple H (it’s not 2001 anymore), Goldberg (I know he’s already in a match but WWE does weird shit), Baron Corbin (just no), any USO (nobody wants that terrible storyline again), and last but not least Pat McAfee. Nothing against him, actually a huge fan but this isn’t his scene. If he enters and doesn’t win, he’s just taking the spot of someone who worked their entire life for that opportunity. If he wants, he’ll have plenty of opportunities to shine in the WWE and NXT, but he should sit this one out.
But at the end of the day, I’m just excited the Royal Rumble is here. The card is stacked with great matches, though if Goldberg wins, I might have to cancel my WWE subscription. Here’s hoping the writers get it right, and put the fans in a position to be excited about the next couple of months.
