Some of my blogs are meant to be serious, some are meant to be funny, and some are just me pleading with companies to be better. Based on the title of this blog, it’s probably clear where this is headed (it’s the plea). I am formally asking Peacock to get their act together on how they organize their Streaming Service.
Before I go on my rant, let me say I love the content on Peacock. It has great shows, great movies, and the WWE Network. But as good as the library is, it is by far one of the worst organized streaming services I have seen. I compare it to my sock drawer in college…. what I’m looking for is in there, sure, but damn if I find it. They tried a “one size fits all” approach to organize their content (organizing every single show or series by season number) which makes sense for The Office and Parks and Rec, but honestly makes it so confusing for so many other things.
I’m sure others have shared this complaint, but whoever designed the WWE library for Peacock is a moron, and has clearly never watched a match. They have all the Pay Per Views like Royal Rumble and WrestleMania which is great, but use the “one size fits all” approach I mentioned above, which makes zero sense. The WWE doesn’t really have seasons, or at least that’s not how people remember matches. I doubt there is a single fan who says “I want to watch the Royal Rumble from Season 11, man was that a good one!” Unless you’re the 0.00001% of the population who categorized WWE by season, then your only option to find the 1995 Royal Rumble, is trial and error – in my case, clicking on a random “Season” and then counting backwards. (If you were guessing that the ’95 Royal Rumble was listed under Season 8, you’d be correct.) The most frustrating part is that the original WWE Network had this library down perfectly, and made searching easy…..but like everything else, once those network nerds got involved, everything went to shit.
Now, for my chief complaint, Bring Me Turd Ferguson. If you don’t know that reference, you either don’t watch any comedy television or you’re under the age of 25. Last weekend my wife and I were trying to find some of the “Best of’s” from SNL only to have their search feature tell me it doesn’t exist. Come to find out…again, you have to figure out the season the “Best of” episode you want aired and then find it. How is it possible that NBC aka Peacock has one of the funniest libraries in existence and yet makes it impossible to find anything?? Would it be that hard to just have a “Best of Saturday Night Live” category or list this by a different show name (other than the regular Saturday Night Live section)? Or at the very least, can “The Best of Will Ferrell” show up when you actually search it? If I haven’t been clear enough, these episodes do exist on the platform- you just have to go through hell to find them.
So to tie this blog in a bow, Bring Me Turd Ferguson. Someone at Peacock needs to take control of the Streaming Service from those suits at 30 Rock, and let someone who knows what they are doing design the search function and library categorization. They have some of the best content – figure out a way to make it accessible.
Signed, an angry WWE and Will Ferrell fan.
