Trying to write this blog for the past 24 hours has been a true rollercoaster. It all started when I came across an article talking about the Mortal Kombat movie that is soon to be released . Like many people in their 30’s, I was brought up playing the video games and was pumped for the movie. The games were always violent and had awesome characters, basically everything a young spork wanted.
While reading the article got me excited about the movie, it also reminded me of a couple different things. First, it reminded me of the first Mortal Kombat movie that was ok (and ok is probably being generous), and the second movie which was absolute trash. But after reminiscing over those two movies, I also remembered this epic Mortal Kombat trailer I saw years ago. I remember watching it and thinking, “I can’t wait for this movie”, but then someone told me it was only created to generate interest on the possibility of a film.
So when I originally sat down to write this blog, I was planning to write about “The Greatest Trailer That Never Was” and talk about how mad I was that it was never created. But as I started to do my research, I quickly learned that something did come from the trailer, a show called Mortal Kombat Legacy that lasted two seasons. I couldn’t believe it, how could I go 9 years without knowing this existed.
Thanks to a “special app” on my Amazon Firestick, I was able to quickly track down the show and was ready to go. I won’t provide any spoilers except one, the episodes are only like 10 minutes long. Honestly, I was/am so disappointed, what crap is that? I sat down to watch it and before I knew it, the first episode was over. I thought the app was broken, but it wasn’t, the entire first season is combined under 100 minutes.
What really sucks is that the show was decent. The characters are pretty strong and the action scenes are awesome. But how the hell do you have an entire season under 100 minutes.
So here is my hope…I hope the new movie is longer than 100 minutes, and I hope it maintains a similar vibe as this “show”.
