Is there any better feeling that when Netflix recommends something that you actually want to watch? Before last week, I had no idea there was a Transformers animated “mini-series” on Netflix, fast forward 6 days and I finished the first part of the trilogy. My thoughts can be summed up in two words….FUCKING AWESOME!
But Netflix letting me know when something comes out isn’t the reason I write this blog, it’s the fact that the Transformers Series….released in 2020…..was actually done right.
Normally, when cartoons of the 80’s / early 90’s are introduced in the 21st Century , they miss the mark. The writers/producers try to modernize the stories to attract the current youth demographic which in turn frustrates those of us that have grown up with the show. I don’t care if today’s teenagers watch the Transformers, just as I’m sure they don’t care if I watch whatever shows they find interesting.
The Transformers Series on Netflix was perfect, combining the nostalgia of the 80’s cartoon so many of us loved with a new story line (at least new to me). What I loved about the series is that it picks up mid “War on Cybertron”, no backstory, no “catching people up”, just full on war. Enter Megatron, Optimus Prime, Starscreeam, Soundwave, Wheeljack, and Bumblebee as they battle for control of Cybertron in this mini-series trilogy.
I’m not even going to talk about the plot because I don’t want to spoil anything. Just know that if you grew up loving Transformers, this show is for you. Now I’m just counting down the days until part 2 is released.
