We all watch movies, and we all know what we like/dislike, but have we ever taken the time to think about what we’ve seen over the course of the year, and how they stacked against one another. I started this trend in 2024, and I’m keeping it going in 2025.
The “2025 Movies In Review Ranking” is a living blog that is updated after I watch something new; I’ll include date, quick review, and would I watch it again. It’s also important to note, this is only includes movies I’m seeing for the first time. It doesn’t make sense to include movies like Diehard or Christmas Vacation which I’ve seen numerous times as I’m sure most people have.
- Thunderbolts (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 5/26/25
- Quick Review – Best Marvel movie I’ve seen in a while, a combination of Suicide Squad and original Avengers movie where it was funny but also had a seriousness to it. Love that it’s characters that we are familiar with from other movies/shows, but they didn’t have much screen time before so it’s their time to shine….except for David Harbour, he’ll always be Hopper from Stranger Things to me!
- Watch It Again – Definitely, I’d watch it again today if I had option.
- Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 5/22/25
- Quick Review – The Conclusion of “Dead Reckoning” and like usual, Tom Cruise does not disappoint. Major action scenes and major plot twists have you on the end of your seat for the entire film….and there’s some subtle humor in the movie as well. If you are a Mission Impossible fan, you’ll love this movie.
- Watch It Again – Cant wait to find a day where I can back to back Dead Reckoning and Final Reckoning
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 2/26/25
- Quick Review – A more badass / less creepy version of Mad Max: Fury Road. Incredible cinematography with amazing acting….but more importantly, a great story line.
- Watch It Again – Absolutely, who wants to watch it with me?
- Fountain of Youth (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 5/26/25
- Quick Review – Has lots of National Treasure vibes, and I’m here for it. Had me doing some historical research to see what is real, and it’s a fun movie for the family.
- Watch It Again – Assuming a sequel is in the works, will definitely watch the first before watching the next one.
- Twisters (2024) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 3/12/25
- Quick Review – Not quite a remake of the original Twister but also not a sequel. Plot is simple, some storm chasers do just that….they chase Tornados. Competing teams of storm chasers hunt Tornados for their own end game.
- Watch It Again – Absolutely, the action scenes are fantastic. It’s a great movie to have on in the background while doing some work.
- Wicked (2024) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 1/17/25
- Quick Review – The play but in movie form (though I never saw the play). The origin story of the wicked witch of the west in Song. Apparently the wicked witch was turned evil by the good witch.
- Watch It Again – Probably not, I get why people like it and it’s so highly regarded….but I’m one and one.
- F*** Marry Kill (2024) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 2/27/25
- Quick Review – This movie checks multiple boxes; Mystery (check), Comedy (Check), Romance (Check). Story is easy, a newly single 30 year old decides to try online dating just as a serial killer starts attacking single females who are searching dating apps. As you can imagine, there are plenty of twists and turns.
- Watch It Again – I doubt it, I don’t think I’m going to uncover anything new watching it again….once is enough but that doesn’t make it bad.
- The Gorge (2025) – IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 2/17/25
- Quick Review – Think shooter meets Stranger Things but with a love interest. Two badass snipers take a unknown mission to protect the world. For an hour there’s literally only two people on screen and you don’t mind it.
- Watch It Again – Probably, most likely while I’m working but I enjoyed it. One of the more unique films I’ve seen.
- Draft Day (2014) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 4/22/25
- Quick Review – What I imagine Draft Day is like for most NFL Teams, just with a little be more drama between the new Head Coach and old GM, and a love story that once HR finds out probably gets them both fired.
- Watch it Again – Start to finish, probably not. But definitely some scenes around the NFL Draft. Know I did how many memes/gifs come from this movie.
- Upgrade (2018) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 3/6/25
- Quick Review – Bourne Identity meets Ex Machina, with some RoboCop….I know that’s a lot. A futuristic society where a parapalegic has an experimental AI Chip implanted to help him walk again and hunt down his wife’s killer.
- Watch It Again – Doubt it, but the more I think about this more, the more I liked it. Definitely a unique plot.
- The Amateur (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 4/20/25
- Quick Review – A little “Bourne Identity” and a little “James Bond”. Nerdy CIA husband tries to avenge his wife murder. If you like those style movies, you won’t mind seeing it (will you see it again, thats the questions).
- Watch It Again – No need, saw the best parts if if the best parts aren’t worth rewatching, the rest of the movie definitely isn’t.
- Captain America – Brave new World (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 2/17/25
- Quick Review – Captain America (The Sam Wilson Version) takes on “The Leader” in a battle that’s more brains then brawn, but there is a Red Hulk sighting at the end. Honestly, acting is average a best, but if you like the MCU you’ll enjoy it (more than I can say for last couple).
- Watch It Again – If it’s on TV, I’d probably watch until the next commercial break.
- Venom: The Last Dance (2024) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 3/3/25
- Quick Review – The final of the Venom Trilogy, and like the other two, an alien symbiote comes to earth searching for Venom. This one had some Thor vibes (the first one) but with worse acting.
- Watch It Again – No, time to put this brand to bed. While the first one was ok, they seem to just be making these for the hell of it with no concern of whether it’s good or not.
- A Working Man (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 4/26/25
- Quick Review – Jason Statham stars in a terrible remake of Taken / Man on Fire. In typical Statham fashion, he’s on a mission to right some wrongs, but for some reason it just doesn’t it. Found myself actually saying “Beekeeper was so much better than this”.
- Watch It Again – No, which is a bummer because I about it on iTunes for $24.99 as compared to renting it for $19.99 and I genuinely wish I had $5 instead of the ability to rewatch that ever again.
