Taylor Swift should not attend Super Bowl 58.
Okay, you got me – I’m a 49ers fan – but that’s not the reason why. The Chiefs have lost to the Packers, Raiders and Bills with Tay in the stands so it IS possible that the 49ers could win even with her there. For the sake of this blog let’s set aside my allegiance towards the other team in RED.
My sentiment also has nothing to do with the tight timeline from the end of her show in Tokyo to the arrival in Vegas – there have been enough blogs and 3-D renderings breaking down exactly how this route is possible.
It is my firm belief that Taylor should not deviate from the original tour itinerary because of the adverse effect of the return flight to her body and voice, and the potential impact on the fans down under.
Let’s break down the impact of her potential Jet Lag:
Jet Lag is something Flight Attendants know All Too Well. Officially, Jet Lag is “time zone change syndrome” caused by rapid travel over multiple time zones. It knocks your body’s internal clock off balance and can cause any of these symptoms: fatigue, insomnia, headache, irritability, digestive issues, poor concentration, memory lapses, even impaired judgement and decision making. Bad Jet Lag sounds like Death By a Thousand cuts and I personally would not want to experience any of these symptoms right before a strenuous back-to-back-to-back performance schedule.
Now let’s answer this Question….? Can Taylor beat these symptoms in a day? How long do those symptoms of Jet Lag persist? Well, experts say it’s estimated to take about a full day for your body to adjust for every hour of time zone changes. That means that it takes about 1-2 days to adjust to a 2-hour time difference, and a full week or more for a longer journey.
What this means for Taylor:
Las Vegas is 19 hours behind Melbourne and a full calendar date behind as well.
If Taylor wakes up in Vegas at 12pm on February 12th (the day after SB58), it will already be 7am on Tuesday February 13th in Melbourne.
If she hopped in her Getaway Car that night (let’s call it 8pm), the ~16 hour flight from LAS to Melbourne would get Taylor to Australia on 7am Wednesday February 14th. Not only would she be missing Valentine’s day with her Lover, she will have completely lost Tuesday February 13th 2024 to the International Date Line (whatever that is… I still don’t quite get it).
If she decided to attend the Super Bowl, she would be leaving herself only about 60 hours to treat any symptoms of jet lag and find a way to Tolerate it before she arrived at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds to perform for 100k fans. Unfortunately, the symptoms from this long-haul likely wouldn’t be resolved in 60 hours; it would take closer to 6 days. Call it what you want but I think this sounds like a recipe for disaster.
What about Tokyo to Melbourne?
Well, her tour manager is a true Mastermind and put these two locations back-to-back for a reason. Tokyo to Melbourne is just a 10-hour flight and only a 2-hour time difference. Taylor could be Out of the Woods and adjusted to the new time zone within a day or two of arriving. Not to mention we would all be able to stop calculating how to travel across the International Date Line.
In conclusion…. while there are millions of new NFL viewers that have dreamed of the confetti falling down on Tayvis on 2/11 (2+11=13!!!) after a Chiefs victory, I firmly believe she should stay on the other side of the planet and cheer virtually. After all…. Travis may be The 1 but he isn’t attending the Grammy’s with her so I think this is an even trade.
Don’t blame me but not going to the Super Bowl is in the best interest of 49er fans her body, her health, and her fans down under. I stand by the fact that she should Stay, stay, stay in Toyko.
