There’s seem to be a new trend in the NFL, wide receivers wearing bright yellow gloves in order to give their quarterbacks a better target. In fact, as I’m watching the Sunday Night Game between the Raiders and Chiefs, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are both wearing a pair.
Normally I don’t care what players wear, but the gloves are starting to cause confusion amongst the announcers, the production team, and the fans because everyone thinks it’s a flag. This was actually a huge complaint about last years Super Bowl, and it continues to be a problem. The game moves so fast, and the production team does their best to stay with the ball, so when you see Yellow somewhere on the field, you assume it’s a penalty.
An even stranger situation occurred during the Cowboys / Vikings game today when Adam Thielen lost one of his bright yellow shoes on a crucial play during the 4th Quarter. The production team put a “Flag” graphic on the screen, the announcers were talking the first down the Vikings would get….but in reality, it was just a yellow shoe that had everyone confused.
Here is a play from todays game to showcase how easily his shoes can be mistaken for a flag. However, this isn’t the play where he lost his shoe, but an unbelievable catch from earlier in the game, while wearing the annoying shoes.
Seems like an easy fix, players are allowed to wear any color of gloves they want….just not yellow. There I solved the problem.
