We all watch movies, and we all know what we like/dislike, but have we ever taken the time to think about what we’ve seen over the course of the year, and how they stacked against one another. I started this trend in 2024, and I’m going to keep it going!
The “2026 Movies In Review Ranking” is a living blog that is updated after I watch something new; I’ll include date, quick review, and would I watch it again. It’s also important to note, this is only includes movies I’m seeing for the first time. Iat doesn’t make sense to include movies like Diehard or Christmas Vacation which I’ve seen numerous times as I’m sure most people have.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 8/1/26
- Quick Review: Arguably my favorite Spiderman yet, and the fact that it introduces an X-Men character makes it all the better. Doesn’t hurt that Punisher plays a major role too (Punisher needs to be in more stuff).
- Watch It Again: Without a doubt, might go see it in the theaters.
- The Odyssey (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 7/18/26
- Quick Review: If you don’t know the story of The Odyssey, you’ve been living under a rock this past month….but if you need to know, it’s the story of Odysseus’ return from the Trojan War.
- Watch It Again: Absolutely, probably the day it comes out on digital…..hell I might go see it again in the theater.
- Sinners (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 3/16/26
- Quick Review: An incredible movie with “From Dusk Till Dawn” vibes. What starts as a haunting story about the south in the 1930s turns into an intense Vampire film.
- Watch It Again: Heard it’s even better second time around, definitely see myself watching it again!
- FI: The Movie (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 2/23/26
- Quick Review: An F1 movie about “the best that never was” who gets another shot, combined with a plot about the underdog team that needs to come together to make it another season.. The acting was fantastic, but even better were the racing scenes.
- Watch it Again: Absolutely, honestly I see this as an awesome movie to have on in the background while working!
- Whiplash (2024) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 7/31/26
- Quick Review: Miles Teller (who is almost always awesome) plays ambitious college drummer who is trying to impress his bands conductor….I know it sounds boring but somehow it’s incredible.
- Watch It Again: It’s pretty intense if someone wanted to watch it for a first time, I’d probably say yes but probably not on my own.
- Zodiac (2007) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 8/8/26
- Quick Review: The story of the Zodiac killer that terrorized Northern California and the investigation that ensued.
- Watch it Again: Absolutely incredible movie but probably one you only need to watch once.
- Eternity (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 1/1/26
- Quick Review: A long time married couple passes away, and when its time to enter the gates of heaven, the wife has to decide to spend “eternity” with either her husband or the college boyfriend who passed away long time ago (and has been waiting for her). Has “The Notebook” vibes as it’s not a Rom Com but not a drama either.
- Watch it Again: Nope, while it’s a good movie, it’s definitely sad so I’ll pass on a re-watch.
- The Rip (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 1/30/26
- Quick Review: A good cop / bad cop movie about a special ops police force than finds a cartel’s stash house with life changing money and the temptations that comes with it. And did I mention it stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Suspenseful from the start, that keeps you are guessing what’s going to happen the whole time
- Watch it Again: I’ll probably watch it again, definitely wouldn’t argues if someone really wanted to watch it.
- How to Make a Killing (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched – 5/17/26
- Quick Review: Another solid Glen Powell movie, this time he’s the forgotten heir to a fortune and has a diabolical way to speed up his inheritance.
- Watch It Again: I would, it was a solid movie with some good twists.
- Crime 101 (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 4/7/26
- Quick Review: Great story of an elite jewel thief trying to pull off a master heist. Almost a modern day Heat….but with less violence.
- Watch it again: If someone who hadn’t seen it before wanted to watch it, I’d be on board to watch it again….but not sure I’ll be seeing it again on my own.
- Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 1/15/26
- Quick Review: Staying the course of the first two, a movie about magicians trying to make a difference in the world. Like the the other two, it’s a fun movie with ok acting that has you thinking “what’s next”.
- Watch it Again: Absolutely, though I’ll probably have it on in the background while working.
- Mortal Kombat 2 (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 7/22/26
- Quick Review: If you know the story of Mortal Kombat, you know the movie….the tournament that Earth’s realm needs to win to keep Shao Kahn away. The difference between past movies and this one was it focused on the story of Johnny Cage. The action scenes were awesome and gory as hell.
- Watch It Again: Maybe I’ll have it on in the background while working, but won’t be dedicating 2 hours to watch it again.
- Send Help (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 2/16/26
- Quick Review: If you’ve seen the trailer, you get it. A shitty boss and the assistant he treats terribly are stranded on an island, but lucky for him she’s an avid Survivor fan and this is her dream scenario. Unlucky for him, she remembers what an ass he is and sees this as her opportunity to right some wrongs.
- Watch it Again: Maybe, if someone who hadn’t seen it really wanted to, I’d probably watch it again.
- When Harry Met Sally (1989) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 2/14/2026
- Quick Review: The Original Rom Com…..see the review for “People We Meet On Vacation” below because this is where they took the plot from. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan were fantastic and now I know where some of those iconic scenes referenced in modern Rom Coms come from!
- Watch it Again: Doubt it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great movie. Some movies you just seen to see once.
- People We Meet on Vacation (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 1/9/2026
- Quick Review: Coed college best friends reconnect at a wedding after not speaking for a couple of years…..and since this a Rom Com, I bet you can piece together how this story ends. Decent acting and a quasi unique story makes it a fun movie to watch.
- Watch it Again: Not sure I need to but wouldn’t be opposed to it.
- Masters of the Universe (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 7/23/26
- Quick Review: A classic 80’s TV Show (and movie) brought into the 21st Century, though this time it’s the Origin Story about how He-Man finds to Sword of Power and becomes He-Man. To sum this movie up, it tries to follow the Guardians of the Galaxy script of 80’s music with cheesy dialogue but great action scenes.
- Watch It Again: Probably, just because it’s this low on the list didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. Definitely a great background movie while working.
- War Machine (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 3/8/26
- Quick Review: A group of Army Rangers look to complete their training mission online to get intercepted by a Alien Warship in the mountains. We find out who the real “war machine” is!!
- Watch It Again: Great action scenes so might be a decent movie to have on in the background while working.
- Tron: Ares (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 3/17/26
- Quick Review: If you have seen the other Tron Movies, you understand the premise before the movie even begins. This time, an overzealous executive tries to bring “The Grid” to the real world, and as you can imagine, it doesn’t go well.
- Watch it Again: Visually stunning, decent action, and ok acting, I’d watch it again but it wouldn’t be my suggestion.
- Vengeance (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 7/24/26
- Quick Review: I saw a desciption of this movie as Batman meets Punisher, and actually think it’s pretty accurate. Only adjustment I’d say is it’s more like a Batman who got his money by winning the lottery and spends all of it on revenge. One tough part about the movie is how it’s poorly dubbed into English.
- Watch It Again: Probably not. While the fight scenes are awesome, the dubbing really takes me out of it.
- Wrath of Man (2021) IMDB Lin
- Date Watched: 1/1/26
- Quick Review: Another Jason Statham movie where he seeks revenge against those who wronged him. In this case, bank robbers who killed his son which required him to go under cover as an armor car driver to find those responsible.
- Watch It Again: Not on purpose but would be a solid film to have on in the back ground while working.
- Minions and Monsters (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 7/3/26
- Quick Review: A classic Minion’s movie where a couple decide they want to make a film, and in the process unleash some of the worst monsters in the world…..but of course it’s adorable.
- Watch It Again: Not by choice, but bet my 6 year makes me watch it again.
- The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 4/4/26
- Quick Review: The sequel to the Mario Bros movie.. .but less good. Basically the plot is Mario and Luigi trying to save the universe while the director tries to cram every Mario character ever created into this 120 minute movie
- Watch it Again: If it was up to me, no! But my 6 year old wanted to see it which means when it’s release on streaming, I’ll probably have to watch it again.
- Shelter (2026) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 4/24/26
- Quick Review: If you’ve seen one Jason Statham movie, you’ve seen them all. In this case, he’s a loner on an island where bad people are searching him out because of his past. Honestly, it’s a poor man’s Bourne Identity but still better than last years “Working Man”.
- Watch It Again: The fight scenes are ok…..but not ok enough to watch again so this will be a one and done for me.
- Marty Supreme (2025) IMDB Link
- Date Watched: 1/19/26
- Quick Review: I know this movie has received great reviews but I don’t get it. Sure, Timothee Chalamet was fantastic but other than that, this move gives the vibes of a director trying to create a movie about Ping Pong by combining 5 different scripts….none of which are about Ping Pong.
- Watch It Again: Absolutely not, I’m still trying to figure out why I watched it once.
