Based on the title, I’m guessing you thought this blog was about a crazy parlay when I had some 10 Leg all underdog parlay that won. A bet where I risked $25, and won $200,400… but hate to break it to you, it’s not. It’s not about the long shot at the Kentucky Derby, or even when I bet UMBC to upset Virginia several years back. The funny part, this bet hasn’t even played out yet, we still have a year to see if I Won or Lost. This is the best bet I ever made simply based on the situation…. when I bet on the Red Sox to win the 2023 World Series while on a Private Tour IN Yankees Stadium.
For this blog to make sense, you need to know I’m a diehard Red Sox fan. Maybe not the watch 162 kind of diehard fan, but the kind that watches their offseason, checks the score everyday, and probably watches 35 game kind of fan. I celebrate this teams win, and mourn their losses. Especially if the loss is to the Yankees.
So here’s the story, a month ago, my company had it’s leadership meetings in NYC; we went to Yankees stadium and got a private tour. Not only a private tour, but we had a private meal in the VIP Cub behind Home Plate. I have to say, it’s an impressive stadium, it’s every bit it looks on TV. And one of the coolest experiences was the opportunity to walk around Monument Park in Center Field home to the legends who played for the Yankees. I appreciate it, it celebrates some of the greatest players in history, and let’s be honest, not many teams have the ability to have their own Hall of Fame.
Here is where the best bet I ever made takes place. While I was reading the plaques of their legends, it occurred to me that Monument Park would be a great spot to place a Futures Bet on the Red Sox to win the 2023 World Series. This is a team that is not expected to do much; we only won 78 games last year which was good for last place in our division, and we have made minimal improvement this offseason. Honestly, look at this roster, it’s note striking the fear in many teams. This looks like a team that is going to win 78 games again next year too.
But I believe in the Red Sox, I believe there is always the potential of this team to shock the world and Win the Series. There’s always the potential for the team to click and just bulldoze their way through the league. So I placed a bet for them to the the championship. But I didn’t just place a bet, I placed a bet based on history, I bet $20.04 that the Red Sox will win the 2023 World Series (I would have bet $2,004 but I’m not a millionaire). For those not aware, the Year 2004 is the year the Red Sox came back from 0-3 to beat the Yankees in the ALCS and win the 2004 World Series….their first championship in 86 years.
So in the heart of enemy territory, I placed a bet that the Red Sox will overcome the longest of odds to be crowned champions once again next year. And if this happens, I want ALL THE CREDIT for putting this energy out into the universe. I want a championship ring and I want to cruise in the Duck Boats during the championship parade in the city. I’m keeping the receipt Red Sox nation, can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!! #YoureWelcome
