To say this NFL Season has been strange would be the understatement of the century. The Bills and Cardinals are good, the Cowboys and Patriots are in the basement – we are literally living through the old adage: “anything can happen on any given Sunday.” Even though the season has been disappointing (or at the very least confusing) for those of us who have to watch every game from home, the NFL does have the unique opportunity this year to do something great….. GIVE US ALL THE SNOW GAMES!!
Here’s what I’m proposing: If there is a game scheduled and one of the cities has snow in the forecast, the game immediately gets relocated to that city. I don’t care who is supposed to be home, or if the “home team” had sold some tickets. Give the people what they want to see and play as many games as you can in the snow. If my phone can let me know it’s supposed to snow 10 days out, I’m sure Roger Goodell and his crew can download the Weather App too.
I’ll take this one step further… if there is a game that looks like it’ll be a real blizzard, it should be “flexed” to one of the national games. Let’s be honest, whenever there is a “snow bowl”, people tune it. It doesn’t matter who is playing, people just loving seeing football in the snow people you never know what’s going to happen. The field is slippery, the ball is harder to catch, and the players look miserable. There’s nothing quite as joyful as watching a player slip and slide across a frozen tundra as you sit on your comfortable couch safe & free from the elements (and probably with a drink in your hand).
And if you still need a reason to institute the “snow bowl” rule, just think Leon Lett. One of the most infamous….sorry I meant stupid….plays in NFL history that wouldn’t have happened without the snow.
So in conclusion, Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow…..on Sundays!!
